Slow Sunday 2.11.18

Hi all,

It’s been down-pouring here — M. and I didn’t do too much. By the time we dragged ourselves out of bed, the morning was gone. I convinced him to go to the supermarket ( 🙂 ) while I finished up some work for a client.

After that I went to go get my nails done — well, undone, really — because I’ve had fake nails since the wedding. I had been changing the color and getting them filled because the set had cost so much money and felt like I had to keep them for a bit, but honestly was just getting sick of how they looked and the maintenance of them.

And that was pretty much it. But I still have a lot of thoughts to share today, even though I didn’t do a lot or really get dressed.

Currently reading…

I’ve started reading The Curated Closet by Anuschka Rees. I’m not far enough in to give a review of it of course, but it’s okay so far. I find a lot of the capsule wardrobe books I’ve been reading have been pretty basic and common sense, and this one has some actual activities and exercises to edit your wardrobe, which I am looking forward to.  The photography is really lovely as well, though some of the ideas are lacking and contradictory. For example, the book opens with a flow chart asking if you can describe your style in one sentence, and then a few pages later it says it doesn’t matter if you can easily define your style to someone. But, the book is just so pretty, and a straightforward read, so I’ll definitely finish it despite some of the shortcomings so far.

Currently loving…

I’ve already failed at my “I’m not buying anything this month!” exercise. I had some extra funds from Poshmarking, and I ended up caving and bought the Jamie + the Jones T top in blush. But I’ve been eyeing it for awhile, and believe it was a good investment for spring. Blush is one of my favorite colors to wear for a few reasons. I’ve always loved pink, first of all, and I also feel that it’s a flattering color for my skin tone and hair color. It’s one of my closet color palette colors as well, so I’m excited to get it and incorporate it.

Another thing I’m eyeing (but not buying, obviously!!!) are the Vrai & Oro engagement rings. Wow, they are stunning! We were already engaged when they launched the collection, but boy do I wish one of my friends would get one so I could live vicariously through them. Ha! I love the round halo (which is interesting because that isn’t really my style), but the east-west emerald setting is also so unique and beautiful. Wow! Vrai & Oro uses lab-grown diamonds, which is really cool.

I came across an excerpt from a Sanskrit prayer the other day that really spoke to me and this whole ethical fashion thing, and my new plant-based diet (which is going really well, by the way!) It’s so beautiful…

“May all beings be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.” — Sanskrit prayer (“Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu”)

I also have still been feeling a bit down in the dumps about us not having a lot of friends that live near us. I came across the below poem excerpt by Rupi Kaur, and it really connected with me and how I feel lately.

“My heart aches for sisters more than anything. It aches for women helping women, like flowers ache for spring.”

Currently annoyed by…

Well, I usually try to keep it positive here but I’m a little annoyed with the blog world lately. I love so many small bloggers, but have basically unfollowed all of the big-time bloggers I used to love. There is no editorial content anymore, everything is sponsored posts and #ad. It’s so rare to find an authentic recommendation anywhere. Also, I see a lot of posts that I know must be sponsored based on my marketing background, but that are not disclosed as such, which seems pretty shady.

I know these bloggers write as their full time jobs, but even fashion magazines have editorial content mixed in with their ads. I’d love to see more real, true, resonant content.

What were you up to today? Reading anything good currently? Blogs, books, etc.?

xx

  1. Hi Kellie! I just found your blog & love it! Totally agree with the unfollowing some of the big time bloggers. I’ve found that I can’t relate to them anymore, and it’s become more about perfectionism rather than vulnerability, sharing, connection, and writing about things that matter. Can’t wait to read more of your posts!

    1. Hi Sarah, thanks so much for stopping by and I’m glad I was able to find your blog, too! I love the openness and authenticity of your writing, can’t wait to follow along. It truly is so hard to find these days!
